Be a Pro For a Day

The inaugural GFNY NYC race was held in 2011 and since then, GFNY has expanded to global series of 25 events. Today, GFNY is the largest global cycling marathon brand, offering events, cycling apparel, casual apparel, gear, sunglasses and coffee to passionate cyclists around the world.

GFNY NYC serves as the GFNY World Championship and every May, cyclists descend onto New York City and the starting line on the world’s busiest bridge, George Washington Bridge, which is fully closed to cars for GFNY. The race features the most international peloton in the world with riders from almost 100 nations coming together from all corners of the world to challenge themselves against the clock and fellow riders over the iconic route. GFNY World Championship has become a mecca for road cyclists from around the world.

GFNY is a race and personal challenge. Every rider gets chip timed from start to finish regardless if they compete for the win, to set a personal best or just to complete the event.

First and foremost, ALL riders regardless of ability, talent, level or placement in the start corrals can expect to be treated like a Pro For A Day.

  • The entire racecourse is police-monitored for start-to-finish chip timing of all riders.
  • The course has cheering friendly volunteers and fully stocked aid stations to keep you fueled.
  • The race staff ensures whatever your pace, you will receive the same support and treatment for your entire race.

The Courses

GFNY World Championship NYC is the world’s most international cycling race, with a peloton traveling to NYC from over 90 countries to take on the challenging 100-mile race course. The scene that GFNY brings together during race week is as diverse, colorful and warm as the race venue itself.

Race week activities are centered around the George Washington Bridge and Fort Lee, New Jersey. The GFNY Village location is easily accessible to both New York City and the beautiful Hudson Valley that unfolds before you on race day. Group Rides, the Welcome Zone, Registration and Packet Pickup, NYC Bike Expo and the Bike Zone are all located in the GFNY Village.

On race day, you are treated to a start on the iconic George Washington Bridge, the world’s busiest bridge, which gets closed to traffic especially for GFNY to provide you a once-in-a-lifetime experience. At dawn, GFNY cyclists take their places in their start corrals. The sunrise reveals the skyline of New York City to the south, and the picturesque and historic Hudson Valley to the north.

The course takes you through the historic Palisades and up Route 9W. After the initial 10 miles in northern New Jersey, you continue cycling north in New York State along tree lined roads, rolling hills, and speedy flats, at times so close to the banks of the historic Hudson river that you can reach out and touch it.

The climbing begins in earnest at Bear Mountain, where the medium course participants finish their day on the beautiful summit, and where the entire Hudson Valley is on display. Long course riders continue the race over several challenging climbs while winding through picturesque Rockland County back to the Palisades and with 2 miles to go tackle the final climb to the finish line in Fort Lee.

The entire finish village is alive with music, photos, podium ceremonies and a well-earned post-race meal for the racers. The Drink Stand, Pasta Party, BBQ and Beer and Wine Garden are open to cyclists, families and spectators and have food and drinks available for purchase.

All this makes GFNY NYC an extraordinary, unforgettable bike party and the Mecca of GFNY.

Long Course

LONG COURSE IS A COMPETITION

Only the finishers of the 100-mile long course are eligible for category rankings and Overall and Podium awards. If you want to race and be ranked in your category, you must complete the long course.

Top 20% of finishers in each age at the GFNY World Championship earn a spot for the Qualifier Corral at every GFNY World event.

Medium Course

Did you know these six facts about GFNY BEAR 50 MILE?
  1. You get the GFNY Finisher Medal at the GFNY BEAR Finish Line at the top of Bear Mountain.
  2. You get bus transportation from Bear Mountain to the Finish Village in Fort Lee as part of your entry.
  3. You get food and drink at the Bear Mountain aid station AND get a snack bag on the bus.
  4. Your bike gets wrapped in a moving blanket for the transport on the truck.
  5. The 50-mile GFNY BEAR has just 900m / 2,900 feet of climbing, compared to the 2,800m / 8,500 feet of climbing as part of GFNY 100.
  6. Almost 1000 riders of the GFNY peloton finish GFNY BEAR each year.

MEDIUM COURSE IS NOT A COMPETITION

The riders of the 50 miles medium course will be provided their start-to-finish time, but will not be ranked by finish time. All finish times will be listed in alphabetical order.
